As the perimeter shrank and the surviving defenders fell back, they became concentrated into a small area
Grant is silly
I just read the Rapid Lesson Sharing report regarding a scalding injury from the suction hose blowing off of a Mark III pump on the Lost Horse Creek fire a few weeks ago. I had a similar incident back around 2003, though fortunately there were no injuries in that incident. In 2022, the Wildland Fire Lessons Learned Center (LLC) recorded 12 different events that meet the NWCG definition of “Entrapment”. Of note this year were multiple instances of vehicles becoming stuck or disabled during initial attack, resulting in firefighters needing to retreat on foot as flame fronts overtook their vehicles.
