Description:
On August 13, 2024, a skid steer operator with nearly 30 years of experience was working pushing dead and down debris away from a road on the Schenk Prescribed Fire. At one point, the operator selected a tree, grabbed the end of the tree with the grapple, and began pushing the tree into the burn unit’s interior. The tree, met with resistance from the windrow, slipped off his grapple and impacted the lower portion of the skid steer door, breaking through the one-half inch polycarbonate glass, and struck the operator on the right thigh about three inches above the knee. Within minutes, an engine captain arrived on scene to assess the incident. Upon examination, they discovered a five-inch laceration to the operator’s upper right thigh.
